Thomas Owens

In loving memory of Thomas William Owens, age 88 a resident of Moatsville, West Virginia, a man born on April 23, 1935, a son to the late Clarence Raymond Ownes and Liza Virginia (Poling) Ownes. In the charming town of Grafton, West Virginia. On Friday, May 13, 1955, he joined hands in marriage to the former Avis Anne Poling who preceded him in death on December 22, 2011.

Thomas, a proud father to Thomas Ward Owens, Patricia Mahon, and William Douglass Owens, cherished the love of his grandchildren Cara Brown (Deriek), Ryan Thomas Owens (Krystal), and Katherine Owens. Alongside his siblings, John Owens (Dorothy) and Jill Little, his best friend and companion, Jane Rickard, he stood tall as a pillar of strength, offering wisdom and guidance to all who came seeking his warmth. Besides his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Neal Owens, James Owens, and Gary Owens: two sisters, Ila Shinn, and Nancy Stewart. He dedicated his life to serving as a Facilities Engineer in the Department of Corrections, showcasing his unwavering commitment to building a better world. With a heart as vast as the ocean, he sailed through life's challenges with the grace and resilience he learned during his time in the Navy. He loved spending time with his family, golfing, with the Ownes family at Canaan Valley Resort every year during his family reunion, which was the whole week, he enjoyed watching football the Redskins was his favorite NFL team, he was a baseball coach and manager for his children while they were growing up. Thomas was a faithful member of the Shiloh Church of the Brethren. On March 15, 2024, Thomas peacefully departed this world, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and perseverance that will forever linger in the hearts of those who knew him. His journey may have reached its earthly conclusion, but his spirit will endure in the laughter of his family and the memories they shared.
