Freddie "Pap" Collins, age 81 a resident of Philippi passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Charleston Area Medical Center Emergency Department, he had been in declining health however his death was unexpected.

He was born on February 17, 1943, in Philippi, a son to the late Shirley Collins and Ruby (Croston) Collins.

On January 4, 1963, he joined hands in marriage to his childhood friend, and soulmate the former Shirley Jean (Croston) Collins who preceded him in death on October 7, 2022.

Freddie leaves behind, one son, Michael Wayne, and wife Misty, one daughter, Stephanie Ann Phillips, and husband, Wilbert, two daughter- in- laws, Sallie Ann Collins, and Karen Sue Collins. He was Pap to many including his seven grandchildren, Shirley Dawn Collins, David Daniel Collins, Danelle Lynn Collins, Keisha Dawn Nichole (Collins) Croston, Emily Brooke Collins, and Skyler Chance David Phillips, great-grandchildren, Paydon Westfall, Ethan Westfall, Cambria Knight, Nadaleigh Knight, Breelynn Knight, Daniel Collins Jr., Caden Collins, Bentlee Todd, Nevaeh Collins, Ariana Todd, Briar Croston, Braxten Hardy, and Ivee Hardy. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and his special niece whom he thought of as his own daughter PauletteCollins .

Preceding him death are sons, David Lee Collins, and Freddie Lee Collins, a grandson Dustin Lee Collins, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been predeceased by brothers, Dellet Collins, Sherwood Collins, sister Dottie Miner.

Freddie was a member and attended the Olive Hill Apostolic Church. He received his GED; he went on further with his education and received his certification in Welding and Machinist from Tri County Tech Center. He then taught Welding and Machinist class at the Tech Center. He worked for various Companies throughout his life including, Hathaway Construction, Ashland Oil in Canton Ohio, McCoy Brothers of Philippi, Mohawk Lake in Canton Oh., Jerry Dalton Logging of Philippi, Progressive Farmer, and he worked at Badgar Coal Company as a coalminer. Fred loved to farm, mow grass, garden, and enjoyed going to Long John Silvers and Kentucky Fried Chicken every week. Freddie is going to be missed by all those who loved and knew him.

Family and Friends will be welcomed at the Kittle Family Funeral Home 265 Beech Ave., Philippi on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 5:30 pm until 9:30 pm., and again on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 9:00 am., until 2:00 pm., at which time a funeral service will be conducted with Pastor Dolly Sparks and Evangelist Jeffrey Minard officiating. Fred will be laid to rest in the Welch Cemetery near Moatsville, WV, following the funeral service. The Kittle Family Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.
