David Barkley

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the departure of David Edward Barkley Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a brother. David peacefully passed away from our midst on Saturday, December 30, 2023, while under the care of his wife and WVU Hospice at the age 73. He was a resident of Moatsville, WV.

He was born on May 31, 1950, in Baltimore, Maryland, a son to the late Edward Woodrow Barkley and Nora Belle (Armstrong) Dortch, he brought joy and love to the lives he touched.

David, characterized by his humility and gentle demeanor, formed deep and lasting relationships with his loved ones, and his legacy of love and devotion will continue to reverberate through their lives. He is survived by his cherished spouse, Kathy Lynn Barkley. They were married on August 6, 1994, in Parsons, WV. She stood by his side throughout their many years of marriage. Their love was built on a foundation of respect, loyalty, and unwavering support, and their bond serves as an inspiration to all who knew them.

Family held immense significance in David's life. He was a loving father to his sons, Travis Barkley and his companion, Alesha McKinney, David Edward Barkley Jr., taking pride in their accomplishments and nurturing them with unconditional love. David adored his grandchildren, Gage Barkley, Madden Barkley, Nyla Barkley, John Barkley, Hayden Broadwater, and Landen Broadwater, finding great joy in watching them grow and flourish.

David's memory will also be cherished by his siblings; Edward Barkley and wife Jackie, Russell Bakley, Danny Barkley and wife Tanya, Donnie Barkley and wife Becky, Denise Smith, and Gail Ann Dortch, stepfather, Willie Dortch, along with countless extended family members and friends who knew for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering support.

Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by a son, John Daniel Barkley, two brothers; Timmy Barkley and Gary Dortch, stepmother, Bertie V. Barkley, stepdaughter; Dawn Williams.

David was a dedicated and hardworking individual who found fulfillment in his career as a forklift operator working for Dominos Sugar Company until his retirement. He loved spending time with his family, camping, boating, fishing, crabbing, watching westerns, he also enjoyed playing his guitar. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Family and friends may gather at the Kittle Family Funeral Home 265 Beech Ave. Philippi on Friday, January 5, 2024, from noon until 4:00 pm. A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 4:00 pm with Pastor Bryan Headley as the celebrant.
