Roger Heatherly

February 22, 1945 — April 23, 2022

Kingsland, Georgia

Roger Dale Heatherly, age 77, of Kingsland, Georgia, passed away at home on April
23, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Roger was born in Philippi, West Virginia on February 22, 1945, to parents Daisy
(Williams) and Marcellus Heatherly. Roger was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he
was awarded an Army Commendation Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, and
the Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars. He earned six Good
Conduct Medals during his 20 years of service to our Nation and achieved the rank of
Sergeant First Class. Following his retirement from the Army, Roger served as the
Director of Community Development for the City of Pearl, Mississippi, until his
retirement from that position in 2006.

Roger enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and boating, listening to music from
the 50’s and 60’s, playing computer games, watching backyard wildlife, and completing
home improvement projects with his wife, Carol. He was a lifelong learner with an
aptitude for fixing anything mechanical and was a true jack-of-all-trades who always had
a project keeping him busy.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carol (Thompson) Heatherly; children,
Roger Dale Heatherly II (Christy) of Kingsland, Georgia, Renee (Thomas) Rogge of
Terre Haute, Indiana, and Raymond (Delilah) Heatherly of Collierville, Tennessee;
grandchildren: Rita and Andrew Heatherly, James and William Rogge, Amara and
Saphira Heatherly; sister Dorothy Snider of Mannington, West Virginia; sister Darlene
Moats of Philippi, West Virginia; brother Ronald Heatherly of Philippi, West Virginia, and

Roger was preceded in death by sister Betsy Heatherly, brother Edward Heatherly,
sister Wilda Wright, and grandson Owen Heatherly.
